Here I add Moqui’s paws and work some more on the background.
Now I am adding some deep black over the previous layers. He is starting to look really good, don’t you think? I also add his eyes. I love his amber eyes that are rimmed in a pumpkin color.
Now we start to build color. Since black by itself is lifeless and really doesn’t have much depth, I want to add some color underneath. When I painted in watercolor, I always made my own blacks. I didn’t own a tube of black paint. Pastel can be used similarly. I can mix a color …
I was so privileged to paint this wonderful dog and wanted to share the process with you. I know hes not a wolf but he is so gorgeous!! I started out with a pencil drawing. He is lying on the ledge of a rock wall. Cool huh?
