Now we start to build color. Since black by itself is lifeless and really doesn’t have much depth, I want to add some color underneath. When I painted in watercolor, I always made my own blacks. I didn’t own a tube of black paint. Pastel can be used similarly. I can mix a color “visually” by putting in different layers of color. I am going to use a purple brown and then a navy blue. I could also use a purple color.
